GETTING AROUND TOWN
While Coober Pedy is a small outback town, many of its attractions and points of interest are spread across different areas, often requiring travel over steep and hilly terrain. The region’s climate can also be unforgiving, with extreme temperatures experienced in both summer and winter. As taxi services, public transport and Uber are unavailable — and local transfer services are limited — guests arriving by bus or plane are strongly encouraged to arrange car hire prior to arrival for the best experience exploring the region comfortably and safely.
We strongly recommend pre-booking your hire car to avoid disappointment, as vehicle availability in Coober Pedy can be limited.
For most travel periods, we suggest arranging car hire at least 2–3 weeks prior to your arrival date. If you are planning to visit during the busy winter season — particularly June, July, or August — car hire should be booked several months in advance to secure availability.
